KUMA movie score recording sessions

In 2012, composer Iva Zabkar, together with saz artist Aydin Balli, created a delicately beautiful soundtrack to acclaimed debut feature movie KUMA by young austrian director Umut Daǧ. Produced by WEGA-Film Vienna, it has been to cinemas all over the world, while the team is already working on the next step towards cinematic fame, RISSE IM BETON - CRACKS IN CONCRETE.

This post shall especially remember the music for KUMA and the enormous amount of devotion that led to this mind-opening experience - remember the whole movie score was created in no longer than three weeks and two days of recording. dare to stay on for the relieving end sequence as eastern and western music finally unite.
Recorded and mixed by doktor audio of kotomaki at schallrausch.

(doktor audio, Aydin Balli, Iva 2012)

Check out one of many beautifully improvised saz takes for the funeral scene on the making-of video, listen to the whole production, watch the UK trailer and find out more at the official site of the movie.

With respect and thanks to Michael Katz and Ulrike Lässer at WEGA-Film, Sergey Martynyuk, Umut Daǧ.
